Damn cold - frozen pipe

Just after I move a load of laundry to the dryer when I noticed a slight buzzing. At first I thought something was wrong with the washer when I noticed that the cycle wasn't finished - no cold water means no rinse cycle and no cold water means frozen pipes. The hot water was working so if I was lucky maybe it pipe wouldn't leak once thawed.

It wasn't frozen in the crawl space so I pulled the washer away from the wall and placed a oil filled radiant heater against the wall. (I vacuumed behind the washer and dryer to prevent a dust fire) A few hours later there was a quart or so of water in the drain bucket.

I turned on the water and started to fill the washer - no leaks visable. So I shut everything down and drain the pipes.

I normally drain the pipes if I leave the house for travel in the winter but now I will when we get cold and high winds. Since I did laundry on Saturday I can only guess the pipe froze on Saturday night or Sunday when the winds picked up.
