Folding scaffold

This weekend I constructed a folding 5' scaffold so I can work on the ceiling of the bathroom and other areas. I constructed it out of 3/4" plywood and 2by4's. It folds up - see lower image. I still need to add folding locking braces.

The bench is 18" wide, 5' long and sits 18" off the ground My main goal was to make it very sturdy - it will easily hold my weight plus materials. My idea for this was to make it solid enough so I don't need to worry about moving around while working on the platform. The only problem is that it weighs a good 30-40 pounds. Posted by Picasa

Rocketboom

Yesterday I heard about this vlog on Morning edition - to date I had figured that vlogs were just geeks with web cams - low production value self indulgent videos. But John Ydstie set me straight when he profiled Rocketboom. (Link to NPR story) So I checked it out because the idea of a vlog newscast set behind a cheesy old map in the background was appliance to me. Just the audio from the June 28th report was enough to let me know that this was going to be as good if not better than the Daily Show and Colbert Report. Well it was as advertised - Amanda Congdon is a very appealing host and I no longer consider vlogs to be to domain of geeks with web cams.

As one with video conversion hardware I should have expected higher production value and with some smart people out there I should have expected some good vlogging.

I encourage everyone to check out Rocketboom and Amanda Congdon, via google, on Wikipedia, or a recent Here is a behind the seen shot of production of Rocketboom: via Englishman in New York.

I especially encourage every one view the June 28th report for commentary on Iraq.
