My new route to the Shenadoah Valley

My brief trip east to attend the east coast reception for the marriage of Jim Rhodes and Holly Morton. I decided that I was just tired of driving on I81 and since there isn’t a direct route from IL to Harrisonburg in the Shenandoah Valley – I didn’t want to drive down the Valley from I64 at Lexington or up the Valley from way out east at Hagerstown.

So looking at a map of WV and having had Page frequently recommended against taking US33 across WV I knew that many of the roads run up/down the valleys with the squiggly roads crossing the ridges. I found a route from Cumberland MD down WV 28 to US 220 to WV 55 to route 259 that runs up the valley to Broadway. Knowing that I could then take 613 from west of Broadway down to Wengers Mill Road I knew I had a good route. All in all it took me about 130-140 minutes to drive the approx 110 miles to my cousin’s place in Lynnville. And Thanks to Senator Byrd for the new 4 lane stretch of WV55. I made to my cousins before noon better than I had planned
